Over the last several years, Scooby has taken over
operations from several state run dog pounds. This is not an easy task,
as many of them are a good distance from the main shelter and in addition to
managing each location, Scooby is also responsible for strays and on call for
rescues.
The latest contract that has been signed is for a
pound in Palencia, approximately an hours drive from Medina del Campo.
Fermin Perez, the President of Scooby, has officially
signed the contract that legally allows Scooby to manage the pound and also be
responsible for the collection of strays in that region, as of January 1st,
2015.
As you can see from the photos, it's a very sterile
and cold environment. One Scooby team member described it as "depressing"
after visiting the location. This is due in part to the large amount of work
that is needed, and more so that there are too many dogs and the pound is
already overcrowded.
Homes are urgently needed, so if you are in a position
to foster or adopt, please let us know. The dogs are a mix of breeds as it’s
the local pound, and they will be on the website soon.
Scooby can
do it, but we can't do it alone. Please share, spread the word and donate if
you can.
