13 plus10 dogs rescued from Cuenca

Some weeks ago we have received a call for help to rescue some dogs from Cuenca.
The perrera was handled temporarily by an animal welfare association, but at the end of the three months,  the management would pass to the winners of the competition.
"Matarratas" - disinfestor - people have called them.
De facto these animals would all probability been sacrificed.
The volunteers of the perrera did a huge job to be able to empty it before the new management, and they called us to take care of some of these dogs.
Of course we did, and we went to Cuenca and brought home 13 galgos, including a mother with 10 puppies, I mean TEN!
Now we pass the request of help to you, because all these animals need a home, to leave rooms for others (we already have several other calls for help waiting).
Help us to continue to rescue animals, with sharing our posts, contributing economically, adopting, coming as volunteer.

Galga Mama and 3 puppies rescued in Murcia

Scooby has a lot of dogs and many puppies at the moment and yesterday
another poor mama with her three puppies arrived.. They were rescued
from a Galguero in Murcia. The mother is a very good mom, the puppies
look healthy and happy so she feeds them well. Gilda (mama) is very
sweet, but a little shy. We do not like to think about what she must
have gone through in her early life. Luckily they are safe now at
Scooby. But a shelter is no place for puppies (and other dogs) to grow
up in. Please help these dogs and help us rescuing more dogs like her
and her babies.

Please meet Gilda and her puppies Gaetano (black), Gaeta and Gotano:

Bye-bye, cute kitten

Today is a sad day for the whole family of Scooby, today we have to tell you that the cute little kitten which had to go through surgery to have its eyes removed, has passed away. After fighting and overcome the worst part, after enjoying a few weeks with others, after feeling the love and pampering from volunteers and workers at Scooby, his small body could not resist a virus, his defenses have not been able to fight  against that stupid virus, and has not given him the opportunity to grow and continue enjoying the love and affection of the world around him.
At least, we have the consolation that during these past weeks he has received so much love, so warming affection and care that he has gone in peace. He has shown us his struggle and courage to keep fighting until the last moment.

Goodbye cute kitty, rest in peace, and enjoy a new life filled with light and color wherever you are.

NIKI AND TOBI

When you cross paths with an animal, it is for a reason, a matter of fate or because they know they will receive help from you. In my case it was the latter,  we were on our way to our village with my parents, they in their own car  and my boyfriend and me and the dogs in another. My parents were going in front and we followed. All of a sudden my parents touched the brake and we were afraid there was something wrong with the car and when we stopped to see what had happened we were horrified to find that they had hit a dog. There was nothing anyone could do for the animal, it was already dead on the ground. We cried for the poor thing, saying bad things about the people that had left it there by itself, poor thing, but that at least it had not suffered since it had died immediately.
You can imagine our surprise that he was not alone, there were three more dogs close to the road, all of them shaking and the look in their eyes said it all.  One of them left running, very scared, and the other two approached  their dead brother, softly crying and whimpering, laying down beside him. It was a pitiful sight and it made us all cry.
We tried to console them and gave them water and food, since it was very hot and we did not know since when they were without anything to eat. We could not leave them there since the same thing could happen to them.
We called Fermin and told him about the situation and as usual he offered them shelter within the Scooby premises. We put them in the car and I think they were surprised that somebody was helping them.  It was no problem getting them in the car, they seemed to want it and on the way they showed again what loyalty was: most of the time they were hugging each other, almost like comforting each other, like saying: you’ll see, it will be alright.
We took them to Scooby and spend some time with them, all the while receiving nothing but licks and love, like saying thank you  for helping us. Now all that remains is that somebody will notice these two beauties, they have been through enough, they deserve a home and a family who will make them forget all the bad things.
We are still looking for the one brother that left running, to see if we can do the same thing for him.
Everything happens for a reason. If you see an abandoned animal, don’t look the other way, a simple gesture on your part can save its life.

The price of adopting a dog

At Scooby we really like for our dogs to be adopted in a perfect condition to assure their wellbeing and health. For this to be so, the dogs leave our organization with all the vaccinations up to date, with a microchip, a passport, they have been dewormed internally and deparasited externally and, of course, castrated.  There are a lot of people who get angry with us for having to pay for adoption, but they do not realize that the price we ask doesn’t come close to covering all the costs that we spend on the animal.
Therefore we would like to clarify the costs we are making and what they would be in a clinic, and these are the results:
- Identification and registration             eur       20
- Rabies                                                          eur       21
- Tetra vaccination                                           Eur       26
- Microchip                                                      Eur       35
Internal deworming       ca Eur 7 (depending on weight)
External anti-parasites  ca  Eur 13 (depending on weight)
Castration male            between 180 – 250 Eur (depending on weight)
Sterilisation female       between 230 and 290 Eur (depending on weight)
When we  added this up, we figured that to get a dog in perfect conditions would come to a cost of  between 302 to 412 Eur  for an adult dog, and a lot more in case of a pup that needs to be vaccination and deparasited several times. Therefore we would like you to be aware of the enormous effort we are realizing every day so that our dogs leave Scooby healthy and we never ever are trying to enrich ourselves or profit from our dogs. Our biggest satisfaction is when our animals find themselves a good home, with a family that loves them and cares for them the way they deserve, and that is what we are working for every day.

We never stay..

I am volunteer that goes to Scooby two times a year.
And every time I go, the thing I am looking forward to the most is seeing my big friend Oscar,
because I know for sure he will be there.
He will be there, in the paddock behind the horses, in the farthest corner of Scooby, waiting for me.
In the past years he has seen many dogs come into his paddock, become his friend and leave again.
He has also seen many volunteers come for a cuddle, give him treats and leave again.

As this time, me, all excited to go and see my big friend Oscar. And yes, he will be there, because he is always there, watching out for that someone that will come, give him cuddles, give him treats and will stay. But we don't stay. We never stay..
Oscar is still looking for a home! He is a big, sweet, sometimes even a little shy, Mastin Espanol. His back legs are turned, but he can walk and run with them. He is a calm and gentle giant that is the happiest when he can live outside a house, in a big garden or a farm.
Please, let him experience what it is to have a home!
A family where he can stay. Forever.

OSCAR HAS BEEN RESERVED MEANWHILE!!!!!! Yupiiieh!
