Happiness

If today you ask me . what is happiness ? I have the right answer , happiness is to have a long walk in Scooby a day like today, without hurry , slowly , peacefully talking with the animals living here, I am going to tell you how has been my day, today.

Today was not too hot , not cold, not too sunny, not too cloudy, it was a perfect day 23/24 degrees with sun and clouds. Nothing really urgent to do so plenty of time to enjoy and I did it.

Happiness is to walk among all the new horses with Laura my galga, spending time with them approaching them slowly letting them to know that they can trust you, that you are not going to harm them and then happened , even the most frightened ones allow me to touch them.

Happiness is to hang around the neck of some of them like Beduino or Estrella feeling their power , feeling all that energy coming into yourself.

Happiness is to throw some food to our pond and seeing the fishes coming to eat , because we also protect fishes.

Happiness is to sit down and letting all the animals coming to you , my dogs, the goats , the horses even the most timid ones and you can see that even when they are really frightened they just want to be cuddled like all the rest and it is just a question of time and patience.

Happiness is to walk among the dog saying hello to all of them and realizing that they understand you , they understand that the past is past and now they can be happy too. Looking at the last rescue dogs that were so skinny and to discover that they have gained a lot of weight and to see that little by little they are learning to trust humans again.

Happiness is to know that Austin , Lola and all the others are recovering really well .

Happiness is to do , what I have done today, I have spent the whole day walking among all our animals, cuddling them, loving them and letting them to love me, horses, goats, sheep, pigs,donkeys, dogs, cats, ferrets, chickens, hens , ducks , geese , etc.etc.

And at the end happiness is to watch like what I have done today more than 1000 happy animals, we are the biggest shelter in Spain and I am sure that a 99.99% of them are happy. Everybody says that Scooby has a virus so when you are a volunteer here you get the virus and I really agree, if you really love the animals I really think that there are very few places like this in the world.

And do you want to know what could have been the extreme happiness , if I would have done the walk without pain in my knee, because it was really killing me , I need to lose weight , my knees will be better, if you want to feel really happiness come to work with us. There is only a small problem all this happiness is expensive  are you willing to help us?. Thank you. Fermín 

Thank you to Medina´s authorities

During the last month of august we have put in a request to the city council

of Medina del Campo that during the towns festivities they would not admit

the use of any carrousel of ponies because of the way they ponies are

treated. And this week we have requested that they would not allow any

circus with live animals to come into Medina, at least not on grounds of the

city.

Scooby has seen that in no one of the festivities in town, a carrousel of

ponies was active, a fact we are publicly thanking the authorities for.

We have not had an answer yet regarding our second request but we hope this

request will also be honored.

Update Mango ;-(

Three long days and three (longer) nights  Mango had been hiding under a car, shivering from misery and cold before someone even bothered to get him out from under there and take him to the Scooby residencia. How he wound up there no one knows but they think he was coming out oft he mountains, probably left there by someone not worthy of being called human, and that he had been desperately looking for his mother and his siblings, and when he could not find them, he had crawled under the car, hoping for a little protection.

Totally clueless because when you’re just two months old you really panic if you loose all that you have known in your short life, all that has been safe and comfortable, lost in the bat of an eyelid. And all that it leaves you with is fear, cold, hunger and thirst and questions. He was very very skinny, you could see the bones sticking out, and thanks to his owner, he had not had any shots, and already had a bad case of the parvo virus, and things did not look very bright for him

When he arrived at the residencia, he already refused  to eat or drink, and his faeces was nothing but bloody slime. We have given him everything that we possibly could but to no avail. And although he was in a very bad state, he was so very very sweet.. The next morning he died in my arms, covered with a warm blanket, surrounded by love. It is not much we could do but it is better than dying alone on the streets beneath a car.  Rest in peace dear Mango, we will not forget you nor the person who did this to you!

And another one-rescued dogs from Burgos

In this case , like always the phone rings and somebody on the other side asking for help for some neglected animals, in this case dogs, dogs in Burgos , she was from Valladolid but she was on holidays in Burgos and saw several dogs in very bad conditions, after phoning many many organizations , she reached my mobile, I don’t know how and again I could not turn my eyes, the owner of the dogs has been reported and SEPRONA has been there and they agreed that the dogs were in very bad conditions, there are two mastins not old but very very skinny and with several skin problems due to the lack of food and the lack of vet treatment , you can easily see in the pictures.

The Fox-terrier is very skinny but difficult to see because he is long hair , but what is absolutely disgusting is the case of this poor black lady we called her Estrella, the owner , somebody very rural had always tied her with a rope around her leg and she was so desperate , probably with pain , a lot of pain, she was growing and the rope doesn’t , she start biting her leg for getting free and at the end she broke her leg or at least this is what the neighbors have told us. Can you imagine the horrible pain that she has suffered? We asked the protectoras in the neighborhood to help but they were full and we , like always despite of being full , could not close our eyes and they are here with us. Obviously they have never been vaccinated or dewormed but they are going to be free for adoption very soon. Are you going to help them? . Are you going to help us , to help them?.

I know that we are doing a lot of things reporting many cruelty cases and I know that all of you are proud of this, but we need your help, the situation is becoming really difficult, you have been reading all the rescue cases that we are doing daily, we cannot do it without your financial support, please donate today we need your help and we need it now, if not we will need to stop all these rescues.
