Here comes the lottery again..

And like every year around this time we have our numbers for the lottery and this year it is number 84784, and like every year we give out coupons worth 4 euro and sell them for 5, and this extra euro is for the animals we have in our refuge. So please buy!

And what if we win it?

What’s more we have renewed our entire stock of warm clothing, all with our galgo and our logo with the scooby and it’s highly original ears. We’re also going to renovate a large part of the merchandise on the web, with a totally renewed shop that is a lot easier to navigate, all this so that your christmas shopping will be a lot easier to do. We still have some new things to present to you but we will do it bit by bit..

We still need sponsors for our greyhounds flight to the USA and Canada mainly , if you foresee that you will make a trip soon , please let us know and we'll take care of the rest  without it costing you anything and  in the knowledge that you will have helped find a living being it’s own place in this world.
We want to start a campaign of educating and awareness regarding animal abuse, we will need volunteers that are willing to give these talks in the schools, without you we cannot do it all and everything we want to do is worthwhile so get ready, you might never know what will happen if we have enough, that way we would cover much more schools.

And the end of summer arrived...

This update has a huge delay with publishing, should have been done already in late September but...it was forgotten;-) Sorry for that!

...And again we went to Europe to transport dogs and cats. On September weekends we travelled three times: Cristina and I made two of them and last weekend Cristina and Simonetta went to Italy and Slovenia. Finally, around 100 dogs have found their final homes.
With this update I want to thank all those organizations that have helped to make this possible. They have been: GINN, SOS Levriers , Scooby Germany , Scooby Lowlands, Dierenopvang Koningen , Scooby Italy, SW Slovenia , EGN . To all of you: thank you, without your work, ours has no sense.
After last trip on Monday at nine o'clock I was working at my school. On the first trip, we loaded the van at our friends’ home of Greyhounds Ardenne Bleue. There we packed a lot of pet’s food. Thank you very much! On the second trip we came back full of food that our friend Joost had gotten from an English company. He carried them food, asked for a pallet for us and got it! During the third trip the van came also full up with food, blankets and other donations for our animals. Again thank you all for filling our van.
I am telling everything because it is well worn and being thankful, but also to remark that our trips are completely amortized, even on this trip we had to leave food at Lucy’s home because  we could not bring so much! . I am telling this regarding some stupid comment on a French forum which implied that we had not gone to collect food because we did not want to. Dear “friends”, we did not pick it because we filled up the van, we had no place for more, not for other reasons, so French “friends”:  before accusing please be sure of what you are saying. There are always some people who say stupid things due to ignorance, bad mood, or both.
Kisses, hugs, loving bites and licks.

Scooby Walk Day

Last Sunday at last it was time for fun again! The Dutch Scooby Team invited everyone to a rejuvenated ‚Walking Day‘.  Many former Scooby protégés, their two-legged companions and new siblings travelled from all over the Netherlands to the venue. They were not deterred by the rainy and stormy weather and thus the restaurant at Hilversum Airport quickly filled up with people and dogs. Here we met each other before the walk started, so we could have a little snack for the road and check out the Scooby shop that had been built up. At 12 o’clock we headed out, armed with umbrellas and long coats. But as life loves to play its tricks, the rains stopped all of a sudden and the sun came out. Thus the surrounding heath in Hilversum was swarmed by many two- and fourlegged creatures under clear blue skies. From small mixed breed dog to giant mastin, all sizes of dogs were represented. They frolicked through the high grasses, enjoyed the company of their friends and were obviously having a whale of a time. The galgos took advantage of the wide open space and ran around  to their heart’s content. It simply was a delightful view, looking at all those extatic dogs and their proud owners. After about two hours we got back to the restaurant and had a communal meal. The exhausted furry noses used this time to have little afternoon nap. Surely they were dreaming of their next Scooby Walk.
We thank all visitors for coming over and for their donations. We hope they enjoyed their day as much as we did and that we will see them again at the next walk.

Podencos

Until recently, I was saying that we have never had podencos in Scooby and it was true! But now things have changed dramatically, mainly because Portuguese podencos both types, short and long hair, some Andalusian podenco and some greyhound and podenco crossbreed. The problem is that they have difficulties to get adopted and that is why I want to try it with this letter. You know that the life of a podenco is equally or even worse than the one of a greyhound and yet (and this is a personal opinion that you may not share), they are a little less physically attractive than the greyhounds and that is why they may be more difficult to place, but also deserve a space on our homes. Please, let’s start promoting them because they are becoming larger in number and, even more, we are getting them in the shelter much more often than ever. Please, hear our call for help. Kisses , hugs, biting and podenco’s licking. Fermín
