Rare rescues

I don’t know if I told you already but what we do not pick up, nobody will. I am going to tell you about Blancanieves (Snowwhite) and that is a stork that fell from the nest and that was walking about the streets of Medina, and who are they going to call to get her? Obviously Scooby! She has a problem with one of her legs and we are giving her antibiotics, and apart from that it is my job to feed her every day. When she is better we will take her to the area with the lake and then she can do whatever she wants.

 

The other rescue was a ferret that we picked up in Salamanca. Ferrets are becoming popular and all we needed was for them to start being  abandoned too, this one needs an urgent adoption because here we can only keep them in cages.

Silvia

Hello my friends, this is Silvia, a galga puppy that appeared abandoned in a pine forest close to Medina and if you ask yourself how such a small one can already be abandoned, the answer is simple: if you look closely her front leg is crooked so that is the reason she has been abandoned because she would not be suitable for running, but you have to be a very coldblooded bastard to leave this little indefensive animal in a wooded area somewhere, where she has been rescued as by a miracle because somebody passed by by accident and saw her. The truth is we don’t think she needs an operation, according to our vet it is simply a question of giving her good food and in time she will get better.\

 

The big family

‘La Gran Familia” is a Spanish movie, and therefore doesn’t mean much to people from abroad, but the case is  that in Scooby we have a big family now, the mother and her 9 adorable puppies. We picked them up in Salamanca and the poor thing has already been through a lot. Her name is Silke and she had been given for adoption, coming from Badajoz and adopted in the north of Spain, in the Basque country. She had left without being neutered which for me is a problem because it can be the cause of certain problems and that is exactly what happened. Her adopter decided he could not have her anymore and instead of giving her back to the organisation where he got her from,  he decided to give her to a cousin in Salamanca, and first she escaped from the cousin, nobody registers her as being lost and the dog  appears  two months later with 9 puppies and all of them are ready for adoption. In this case the world of animal protection should be held accountable because in this case we, as animal protection workers have done what we blame the galgueros for doing, the adopter has given the dog away without changing the name on the chip and in the end we have Silke and her 9 puppies up for adoption.

Day of the pet in Valladolid

For another year the Sociedad Protectora de Animales y Medio Ambiente Scooby was present in the fourth edition of the “day of the pet” that was celebrated last 16^th of June in Valladolid. Together with the city council Scooby was responsible for organizing this edition in the Paseo Central del Campo Grande.

The meeting was attended by hundreds of people, most of them with their pets, and both adults and children enjoyed themselves. You could not only see dogs, there were also cats, hamsters and even a bird or two.

You could attend several activities from the traditional parade where the dogs were the main protagonists, walking the catwalk like professionals, always accompanied by their owners. The competition was divided into five categories: the most original mixed breed, best costume, best pair on six legs, best look alikes and “my dog is a moviestar”. Furthermore during the day we had several expositions, dogwalks, games with therapy dogs, bouncing aircastles for kids and various stands.

In the previous days there were several free workshops about dogtraining, with great success, in several parks in the city. A drawing and painting competition with the theme: one more member of the family, and a photo contest “picture of my cat”.

These days are important for Scooby, for different reasons, one of them being able to get together with the public, being able to demonstrate the work we are doing day to day, the productsales and finding sponsors to be able to continue our work, and without doubt the main objective was to find adopters for our beloved animals.

In the last months we have seen that the number of abandoned animals has increased, most likely motivated by the crisis that affects us all, so now it is even more important to do the work of making people aware of the situation and inform them , and these kind of days, fairs or other activities help us to reach the public.

On this day of the pet we managed to have several dogs and cats adopted so MISSION ACCOMPLISHED, thanks to everybody.  And for now: back to work!
