A trip of hope to Italy.

Friday 12/09/2014 five o’clock in the afternoon, 36 galgos in the van and Simonetta and me we start our trip to Italy, with several stops in France for downloading dogs, one could not go because she was not in perfect conditions to travel, Simo and me we were changing places for driving and sleeping in the van, everything was ok and 20 hours  later we arrived to our final destination in Italy , meanwhile 36 dogs have gotten their golden baskets in their new homes, everything was really moving it is incredible to see all those new owners really grateful for their new dogs, almost without sleeping the following night arrived, we got a pizza and at the end we went to sleep at 11 on Saturday night.

At seven we got up and we came back to Medina, with several problems in the van but at the end on Sunday night at midnight we arrive back home , to sleep fast because at nine o’clock I need to be working at school, exhausted but with an incredible happiness inside because again we did it 36 more dogs got a home , 36 new spaces to rescue new ones.

I know that we are doing a lot of things reporting many cruelty cases and I know that all of you are proud of this, but we need your help, the situation is becoming really difficult, you have been reading all the rescue cases that we are doing daily, we cannot do it without your financial support, please donate today we need your help and we need it now, if not we will need to stop all these rescues. Another galgo found “me”.

I should say a mini-galgo because this time it concerns a lovely pup of only 6 weeks old. On the other side you could say that it seems the animals choose us. A friend who works in animal welfare said to me, talking about the last galgo they picked up: “they are looking us up, we heard crying in the middle of the night, opened our door and there was a galgo sitting there”.

I was taking my dogs out for a walk and soon I counted an extra one.. they were joined by a small creature that came out of nowhere but I was not really surprised, except for its size because she showed up in the same area where I found my first galgos. For certain that in this city (Valladolid) and around it, it is strange you don’t see a roaming galgo somewhere and if I don’t catch one every month it is because they don’t let themselves be caught because they are scared.

Because she was so tiny, she was very scared of me but the poor thing could not do much to defend herself. I saw she had a large wound on one of her hindlegs, I took her into my car together with my dogs and brought her quickly to the Scooby residencia where Cobie lovingly took her in, as always. She screamed a lot, because being so small she was very afraid of humans, until Cobie put her together with Jalea, one of the mother galgas, and her two small boys Peter and Max, two little adorable galgos, very fine little boys that have not found their family yet and I hope that they won’t grow up in the refuge. She was welcomed by them and made her feel at ease and happy. Later on Cobie found out that the hind leg with the wound was in fact broken. Poor little thing, so tiny and already having to go through abandonment and pain. Maybe they threw her out because she broke her leg and had become useless?

I am asking for your help for the veterinary costs that this little one is going to have to make. In all of this year Scooby has taken up all the galgos that I have found, and there have been many.. and I know that they need help to be able to take care of that many animals.

Forgotten dogs at Scooby

October 5th is our FORGOTTEN DOGS DAY, the day we want to bring your attention to the dogs in our shelters in Medina, Zamora and in the Residencia that are waiting far too long for their forever home. Though we are a good shelter and we always try to do our utmost for the wellbeing of our animals, we are only a shelter and never can give them as much love and attention as they need and most of all, DESERVE! Scooby is for sure a wonderful temporary solution for all dogs in need but it should only be the first step into a brighter future and not the end of the line. One of the uncounted mails to Scooby...

Fermin, I am sorry to add to your problems, because I know of the situation in Murcia, therefore, only if  you can please hear me out, and if you cannot, just delete this text message and tell me no, without hard feelings.

To start with, a few weeks ago I heard about this  battered woman who was being abused by her partner,  he had stuck a knife between her ribs. The man has gotten a restraining order but his sons are still living with the victim and they are a couple of savages, like the father.

The woman had 30 dogs, of which we still need to replace 11, 4 of them are podencos. I am writing you because of the podencos, 2 of them are only 8 months old, one is 5 years old and the other one is a halfbred. Only if it is in any way possible, if you can do something for the podencos, please let me know.

The woman is called..., if you want to help I can give her your email or phonenumber, or the number of the Protectora.. She is a foreigner and does not have anybody in Spain. They are going to give her a small payment of 420 euros for being the victim of violence for about a year, and with this little money and the money she makes cleaning houses she has to make do, so we need to rehome them.

The other 7 dogs that she has are mixes, I am going to pass on the information to the rest of my contacts, all of them already filled to the max, but they will do whatever they can.

Galgos in need of urgent help 2: the mother and the pups

Whilst  happy that Blanca has been relieved of her tumor and is being taken well care of, I  returned to the relatives of the owner, who, as I told you before, were taking care of her while he was in prison. However, without financial means to take care of the necessary veterinary care. 

Again I found a very precious and sweet galga girl there that even with becoming a mother shortly before, was very trusting towards me, she  was very sweet and with three puppies, beautiful little galgos, one with tigerstripes and two of champagne color, absolutely beautiful.  I cannot say any of these galgas was malnourished or too skinny but they had not had any veterinary care at all. I took them quickly to the residencia, wanting to see Cobie’s face when she saw this treasure in my car… well, her face looked like a poem, I should have taken a picture of it.

So now this family lives in a clean place, are well taken care of, dewormed and well fed, thanks to Scooby, so now I ask for your help to take care of all the costs that this rescue implies.
