The miracles of life

It has happened  again at Scooby’s , life is possible because of our help in this case we are talking about 11 wild ducks , we rescued them in Salamanca. By coincidence I was there and we received a phone call saying that a mother duck and her 11 little babies were inside a pool in the middle of the town, so we went there to see the situation, somebody had the little ducks already outside the pool and in a paperboard box, the poor mother was absolutely desperate  looking for her babies, so we tried and tried to catch her , it was impossible so it was heartbreaking to leave her behind looking for her babies,  but we could not leave them there, first the neighbors didn’t want them and second it was really dangerous for them, for example once they were inside the pool they never can come outside by themselves.

Anyway we brought them to the shelter and I was thinking how to do it to teach the babies how to eat, mainly how to eat so we took a foster mother, one of our female ducks and the result is spectacular, the babies adopted her like mother and model, they have learned how to eat and for the moment all of them have survived. Plea for help from a nice man who rescued a Galgo puppy

Good afternoon

My name is …. And even though I am from Asturias, I am working in Badajoz.

On the first of may, walking with my dog in a park, I found this male galgo puppy of about 6 or 7 months old, almost dying of hunger and completely dehydrated. It could hardly walk and I had to carry him in my arms to my home. I cannot keep him since my apartment is just about 50 m2 and we are already full with my dog. I send you pictures so you can see him, he is  very sweet and obedient, although very frightened, surely because he has been mistreated. He is now staying with a friend of mine who lives outside of town and who already has two Mastines but she will take care of him until we find him a home.

Please consider to adopt this adorable creature for 2 reasons: First to give him a loving home and second to show this good man that he did the very right thing with not looking away and he can count on the animal welfare world to help him to make this rescue a full success with finding people who will help the poor thing to forget his bad start into life!

Short news 6

I was right both mares were pregnant and now both of them have foals, a male and a female.

Our recovery area is almost finished we only need to give the last details and the dogs could start using it.

We cannot stop, it is like riding a bicycle if you stop then you fall down, and so we need to keep going. Now we are going to start building two new small storehouses, one just for blankets and coats, we have so many that for the moment we don’t need more and I am asking another people to take some from us, this is going to be a place absolutely closed so no cats and/or rats-mice are allowed inside, the problem that we have now is that the cats lie on the blankets they pee and shit on them and then we need to wash them again.

And the other one is for medicines and like a small laboratory with all the new machines donated.

By the way I want to thank Karen Michalski and IDDEX for the donation of a Laser Cyte and a vet TEST , these machines are going to make our practice one of the best equipped in the area, we are also working on getting an X-Ray Machine and then with the two ultrasounds  everything will be completed..

Then we want to put some concrete at the entrance to make it nicer and tidier.

Last week I went on holidays and then I came back with a nice podenco named chocolate, Do you remember that I told you that we cannot rescue podencos , because we don’t have adopters for them, now I have a problem because while I was on holidays I received a phone call about a case of  mistreatment of animals, podencos and horses , I have been there , we cannot publish the pictures yet and after seeing them I want to rescue them so we are going to need help for the podencos and if it is the case for the horses also, and after that we are going to need to start rehoming podencos.

Some things make me angry 2

Yesterday around nine , evening time I was walking outside Scooby and then I saw a couple coming down from a car, I approached and asked them what did they want, and then they start telling me that they wanted to see, to see what?, I don’t know, I told them that our opening time is until six in the evening, then they told me if we want a Yorkshire Terrier, obviously my answer was no we don’t want more dogs, after that I asked them why and the answer was , “ Because the dog has lost hair all over the body” and then we started a dialogue:

Fermín- So you want to give us your dog, because he has problems, instead of taking the dog to the vet?

Them- No, we have taken him to the vet and he told us to euthanize the dog.

F- What vet practice have you been? I cannot believe that any vet is going to ask you to euthanize one dog , just for a skin problem.

T- We have been visiting both vet practices here in Medina.

F-If it is my dog and a vet tells me that, I would take him to another vet, so I recommend a vet in Arevalo.

T-ok, we will take the dog to Arevalo.

F- All right I will phone the vet to tell him that you are going.

T- By the way < I would like to know if the horses can be adopted? Just for some months and later I will bring back the horse.

F- No for the moment we only adopt dogs and cats.

Conclusion, they want to abandon one dog with skin problem that I am sure they haven’t treated, because they think it could be contagious for humans and then to take a horse for riding on spring and summer probably to go to the Encierros with him and then to bring back the horse.
