One weekend-54 precious lives saved

The hunting season is almost finished, and shelters quickly become full of

galgos. And when a galgo enters a Spanish shelter, he  has a very small chance to get out again.

Fortunately many people, Spanish and from abroad, strongly try to give them the

possibility, not only to come out, but to finally have a life.

A big machinery of hope.

We have received many requests for help and, as usual, we are ready to go.

That's why we left Scooby very very early on Friday morning, direction

Ciudad Real, to pick up about 30 galgos.

When we arrived, as welcome, we found a galgo at the door, very

skinny and exhausted. The volunteer told us that he was abandoned during

the night at the entrance of the refuge. So, 31 galgos.

Luckily we have taken with us all the possible cages, to be able to pick up

the largest possible number of dogs, and at the end we came back to Scooby

with a precious cargo of 34 lives.

For us, seeing the galgos running and playing and smiling, has been the biggest reward.

But why stop us?

The day after, Saturday, we wake up again early, well, to be honest not so

early like the day before, direction Merida.

We had to pick up 15 galgos, but luckily we came back home with 20.

One of them has been found right the day before by a

volunteer working in the perrera, still bleeding.

They cut out the chip from the neck and left him on the  road like trash. These persons are the shame of Spain, and the shame of the human race.

But we won for this time and again on the way back to Scooby, full of

satisfaction and joy.

We want to share our emotions with you, with these images, 54 new lifes at Scooby.

Please help us to close the circle and find them a final home and the

future that they deserve.

SILVERO, A NEW MEMBER OF OUR FAMILY

Monday, 13:40h.: Scooby received a phone call from the local police telling that they had found a horse on the road to La Moraleja, next to the cemetery.

The horse had a rather unkempt appearance with knots in his hair and very thin.

Apparently the animal was tied to a stake and, after pulling it, Silvero, -which is now his name- , luckily managed to untie, (since staying in that place he would have been in danger of malnourishment). So it was the way he got the attention of those who discovered him in his state of neglect.

Three colleagues who help in Scooby, -Dani, Jero and Sabine-, arrived to the place where they met also with national and local police. They helped the members of Scooby to carry the horse up in the van to transport him to the shelter.

His first reaction at his new home showed real happiness: he rediscovered freedom after being tied by a long rope and poorly fed, because very hungry ate everything we offered.

Silvero has become a part of the Scooby family, one more mouth to feed, so we expect to get more food aid to keep our new tenant as good as he deserves.

From here we appeal to all the people who have animals to be aware of their needs and respect them.

I think it’s shameful

Hunting season is over and again we are hearing rumours about cruelty, in this case we became aware that there are vets that for 10 or 20 euros are killing young galgos and they are even taking the corpses. I simply cannot understand this, you cannot do this in a legal way,  killing them and making their dead bodies disappear for that price .

Dear galgueros, you don’t want us to criticize what you are doing to your animals, we from Scooby have been offering you the possibility of getting rid of your animals for a small price and even then you prefer this other method, so to those who do this I will have to say you are a pair of rats if you are not even willing to spend just  a little more on them so your animals will have a happy endterm, so don’t come to us later on that you love your galgos so much  and that there are only a few that abuse them; to me it is just shameful and therefore we are going to inform the Board of Veterinarians and the Federation from Castellon-Leon for galgos so that they can take measures, but then don’t you dare complain later on that we criticize you from the shelters, you are as much to blame for this if you do it yourself or if you see it happen and don’t do anything to prevent it.

January 26, open house at Scooby

Like every last sunday of the month, Scooby organized another open house day on the 26th of january, and 14 people attended, accompanied by the personnel of the shelter.

Although there were areas they could not go because of the rain of the previous days, everybody enjoyed themselves playing with the puppies and visiting the rest of the population at the shelter.

The visit started at 12 noon, and as you all know there is an end to everything, and two hours later the visit ended, leaving all the visitors satisfied, they had really enjoyed the experience.

If you want to be next in joining us at the shelter and visit our most loyal friends, please don’t hesitate to come at the next open house day, so you will get to know firsthand the reality of abandonment and animal abuse and moreover, that you will experience the love and feeling of the animals that live here with us.

Cuco – The story of a galgo that, without the help of a warmhearted couple, now would be dead.

Occasionally we must hear that we exaggerate in our website when we denounce the “massacre “of galgos in this country. Some people claim that today is no longer practiced, that it is a sad part of our history which now belongs to realm of stories.

Well, I can certify that lots of galgos (and other breeds) arrive to Scooby after someone intended to kill them. Some of them arrive even with rope on the neck or with open wounds because they tried to escape at the last moment.

All of us here and the volunteers in Scooby have seen these cases and we all know that THEY ARE REAL.

Just today, one of these dogs has come to us.
His name is Cuco and he is a lovely, friendly galgo -a bit shy- around three years-old.

Cuco is still alive just because someone overheard a conversation in which the owner said that last week he has already "got rid" of a galgo and Cuco would be next. Our man asked the owner if he could give him the galgo -he feared for the animal´s life- and fortunately, the owner did it.

Cuco spent that night safe at this lovely couple’s home. Today they have arrived to Scooby with the hope to give the dog a second chance and find him a family and a good future.

We want to thank the persons who saved the life of Cuco from the deep of our hearts. We have promised them that Cuco will spend the rest of his life enjoying life. We rely on you to keep that promise.
