We present you Blanco and Paulo

These two precious galgos were rescued by Scooby a few weeks ago. The poor things had one of their paws broken and are stumbling around the patio. We urgently need to operate on them but this kind of surgery is very expensive so we need your help to be able to do it. These noble creatures have managed to survive the abandonment, the cold, the hunger and probably being run over by a car. After showing so much strength they deserve to recuperate to be able to find themselves a home the sooner the better. Do you want to help Blanco and Paulo so their surgery costs are covered? Make a donation, they need you!

Oliva has found a foster home!

Our little Oliva has gone to her new foster home in  Valladolid last Saturday. We want to thank this family who has offered to take care of her until she is ready to be adopted.  So we are more at ease now that she does not have to stay at the refuge, especially after her operation, but we still do need your help to pay for the costs of her surgery. This week she has a date with the vet to make an x-ray and if everything goes well, she will be operated shortly. If you want to help Oliva, you can make a donation into our account at Bankinter:

One of those stories that will break your heart

Today I am going to tell you one of those stories that will break your heart and leave you hurt deep down thinking why a human being can be so cruel to animals. Why, since we heard from the beginning that these are beings with feelings, that suffer, that can distinguish between a loving touch and pain, that feel hunger and cold, why don’t we think about that and treat them worse than we would our worst enemy? These are the kind of questions that, given a bit of our time,  we keep on turning  around in our minds without finding answers.
Last week, one of our people answered a call where we were asked to pick up four dogs that had become orphans, because their owner, a paraplegic himself, had been taken to an old people’s home. A story that is repeating itself too many times, it seems that taking care of the animals of a loved one is always the only inheritance they do not want..
But imagine his shock went he found out the state of the animals and find to his astonishment  that, in the 3 or 4 years of their existence, they had never left the small garage or henhouse they were in, a scary place covered with excrements of all these years, accumulated dirt and all kinds of junk. The dogs were terrified and could not stop trembling, they had never been touched gently by a human hand, and some of them showed deep and old scars in their faces, it really was a very sorry sight.  With the patience, care and relaxed way our coworker always uses in these situations, he starts picking them up and he notices that one of them, to whom the others were always leaning into, remained perfectly still. This dog was blind, completely blind, the eyes transparent as glass and not focused on anything but showing a sadness that grips you by the throat!
Now, they are at our refuge, laid down on the blankets in the same corner they chose when they arrived. Four days have passed since they arrived and they still have not gone outside, they are terrified of human contact, and maybe what has amazed us most is that they have given us a lesson in loyalty, they all protect the one that they seem to know is not in the same state that they are; their blind brother, a precious Braco mix of intense chocolate color, to whom you cannot stop whispering in his ear: I am going to take care of you, of you and your brothers, I promise!
We realize we still have a long way to go and a lot of work to do and that it is not going to be easy to socialize these adult dogs that have been ignored since the day they were born, for which the only human contact they have had would have probably  caused them a lot of pain but Scooby exists for protecting animals, that is what we chose to do and it is our task to do so, but mostly it is our vocation to guarantee to any and all of the animals that are in our care,  that nobody will never ever hurt them again. We promise!

My day life, while I am on holidays. Part two

After lunch, office again, and the lucky days that I have time then I go the sanctuary part, there I walk and it is paradise to see so many happy animals, ducks , geese, hens, roosters by the way these wake me up every morning, by the way how I was telling you we have thousands of wild birds coming here to eat , you can see them on the hens patio or with the pigeons, there are literally more than one hundred wild pigeons coming here to play with ours and in a short time we will start receiving on our lake many many aquatic birds, this is really a paradise for animals . Anyway I visit the bull, the pony , the horses that are separated for different reasons and then I go the big fields and there I can see the horses, pigs , goats, donkeys, peacefully eating, carrots, straw, grass now not too much and suddenly they come to you, they stop eating and they come to you to be cuddled , this is something that I cannot describe with words , when one animal of any specie , dogs, normally galgos or podencos, horses or sheep, it doesn’t matter you see that after some time here they recover little by little their faith on human beings , at least this human being that is writing, and they come to be cuddle then is when I feel in paradise and it is happening now , yesterday, probably today again this is the reason why Scooby exists, sometimes I would like to work here and getting a salary from Scooby so I don’t need to go to work every day fulltime but we are not a wealthy org and I need to earn my money outside here.Kisses , licks and hugs from all us, galgos for adoption , all the other dogs and cats also for adoption and all our animals from the sanctuary ahhh and Don’t forget to donate today without your help nothing is possible. Fermín
PS Are you jealous? I can understand it, come and volunteer , but not one week, one month and you will feel it.

Urgent help needed for Oliva!

This little treasure is called Oliva, she was rescued from the pound in Merido last Monday. She’s only a puppy of 6 weeks old and already knows what it feels like to be abandoned, probably because she was not suitable for hunting. Fortunately, she now is with us but again we need your help.  Oliva suffers from a hip dislocation which gives her a lot of pain so she needs to be operated on urgently. To be able to do that we need your financial support because we have so many cases right now in the centre and we cannot bear all the costs. We also need a foster home for her until she is ready for adoption. She is so tiny that we do not want her to catch any disease in the refuge and also when she has been operated on we will need a comfortable place for here where she can be taken care of during her recuperation.
If you want to help Oliva, you can make a donation on our account at Bankinter or through Paypal, or choose another way to support us by clicking here:

Also you can join our Teaming for only 1 Euro a month clicking here:
