One more time… the same sad story.

Over and over again (and for that not less irritating) we keep on finding puppies, abandoned by some "#@!%'¡#& people. Many of them get hit by a car and end up in our facilities waiting to receive trauma surgery. For us this is a repeated story, for Valentin, this is the story of his short life.
Valentin is a little puppy that the Guardia Civil brought us a few weeks ago. They said they had found him in the middle of nowhere. Although I am sure this was not our responsability, how can we deny to help the little animal? The poor thing needed us and now the Association needs from you.

You may already know that Scooby does not wait to get the money before we decide we are going to help, but the opposite. Although you may be thinking this is a bad management, our priority is always helping the animal in need. This is why I am asking you to please support us with any little amount you can donate. Through these important donations we can all make Valentin a happy dog.

Greetings, bites and purrs,

Fermin.

A new nursing facility for our animals

This is going to be our flagship project for this year, after the last pickups we have done with the dogs in a lot of cases in very poor state, they need hospitalization in many cases to help them gain weight and to recuperate from the various diseases they have when they arrived. So far we have been doing what we can but it is time to really start up this project, it is going to be expensive (about 35000 euro) but it is necessary, and we also need food and a lot of other things so this is going to be a project that we will do bit by bit as long as we have all the other needs covered. So if you want to get involved in this new project, you know you can make your donation to Scooby through our bank account or through PayPal, when you mark clearly “for the nursing facility”. Thank you very much and we will keep you posted on the progress.
Greetings, bites and purrs, from Fermin and the whole animal gang at Scooby

One about galgos

Let me tell you about this thing I have observed since we rescued galgos from AndalucĂa, and this is no more no less the case, really every time they have more Greyhound among them, they are improperly named English greyhounds because in reality they are Irish, also in this case they are Spanish but I am convinced some of them have purely Irish Greyhound blood running through their veins, compared with the ones we have picked up in Seville we wonder why because of this thing galgueros in AndalucĂa and Castilla say, which is that the truth is that the Spanish Greyhound has less high speed, however this breed has more stamina in racing longer tracks. In Castilla, they say, the hares are larger and more robust so the races last longer, so they require a Greyhound that has the stamina of the purebred Spanish Greyhound, however in the South the hare is less resilient so a fast Greyhound will do, so a bit of Irish blood is welcomed, but the ones we have been collecting so far hold mostly Irish blood and virtually no Spanish blood at all.

I am convinced that this is also connected to straight races, not sure if you know about these, straight races are for born sprinters, since they are very short and without bends, careers for this type of racing greyhounds were imported from Ireland, I now believe they are picking up on this type of racing here as well and I don’t believe that any of the dogs we have picked up lately are not pure greyhounds, another curiosity from the world of galgueros. Greetings, FermĂn.

What is my job?

Hello everyone, my name is Rebeca and I am the latest addition to the Scooby Medina team. Our president and chief, Fermin, asked me to tell you a little about what I am doing here in the Protectora and that is what I am going to try and explain to you. I hope I won’t bore you since I do like to talk about my work and the work that other people are doing here, and the things that are happening here. That said, let me begin.
My launch with Scooby was in december, and I was surprised about the number of people that work and collaborate with Scooby, but I was also surprised about how little was known by the general public, especially in Medina and the surrounding area, about the work we are doing here so one of my priorities is getting Scooby and its activities known to the world, besides publicizing all activities to the media, a fundamental tool in the promotion and publicity of the Protectora.

Another one of my priorities is to process all the official complaints about abandonment, animal abuse and any other circumstances that need reporting. And after a period of about a month, when we have not had any reply from the relevant organisation, we will proceed to make enquiries about the status of the complaints and in addition  involve the relevant authorities and urge them to assist us to the best of their abilities.
The Protectora Scooby has an extraordinary potential to carry out a multitude of awareness and education activities and we are therefore also setting up projects with families and schools, encouraging to come to the location so we can explain to them firsthand what it is we are doing here and how, unfortunately, we sometimes find animals in appalling conditions but that with the work of our volunteers, our workers and adopters, they get better with a chance of a new life that otherwise they would not have had. That is one of the most satisfying parts of this job. One thing for sure, starting in April Scooby will open its doors and organize new activities for small kids which I will coordinate with the help of my co-workers and volunteers.

In a few weeks the webpage of Scooby will have the store online, updated with new products and a new, more dynamic look to make people visiting our page aware that they are supporting Scooby with the purchases done online. You know that our resources are very limited so all the help is welcome.
Reaching agreements with institutions and organisations is another part of the work we have started in the last weeks, in order to reach workable compromises that can benefit the wellbeing and development of the Protectora and its inhabitants. So far we have had contact with the Department of Youth and the Tourism Office of the city of Medina del Campo, also with the Board of Castilla y Leon and the National Federation of Galgos.
In summary, these are some little parts of my job, I am sure I am forgetting something so I hope you will forgive me and if you think of something I could be doing in the interest of Scooby, please don’t hesitate to contact me. Greetings and thanks to everyone, especially my co-workers that make my life so much easier.

BALÚ.

Hello, I am BalĂș. I tell you that my life has not been long but not unimportant.
When I was born I was very happy, I had other siblings and a very big mom giving me cuddles and kisses very often. I used to spend all day playing with my siblings and whenever I got tired,  my mom would feed me to regain strength and keep playing.
Suddenly one day someone who was not my mother, took me up and although I start crying and kicking I was too little to defend. Those arms were too strong for me and I could do nothing. I remember being locked in some large and cold place and wo
ndering where my mother and my siblings would be. I was lonel. I was hungry and cold. All I could do was hide in a corner and whimper. I do not know how long I spent there but it certainly seemed eternal to me!
Then, one day, someone opened the door and I could leave, but I found no one to pet me or give me love, so I started to circling. I sniffed on all sides looking for something to eat, but nothing smelled like my mom’s warm milk. I walked and walked until I felt exhausted and everything got dark. After that, I bumped into more strangers! They tried to take me again. Why? I was scared and ran and away from them, until I didn’t have any forces left. But they finally took me. However this time they took me and feed me with the delicious and tasty food. Everything looked so good! They also picked me up and hugged me! Later, they took me to a dry and clean place and I realized that not all people are the same.

Right now I am living in a foster home with three others like me and we all enjoy there. My next step is looking for a permanent home. Everyday my host mother says to me how much she loves me and likes me because I am very quiet and she does not need to take as much care of me as she does of others. Oh, one thing is that I have recently visited the vet’s to get surgery done in one of my eyes. They say it is nothing important, just a birthmark, and now that is already healed and there is just a little mark left, I think I look even more attractive.
So , no needs to think any more, please! I am a big and noble mastiff.
Kisses, BalĂș
