Damn, I like dogs

Sometimes I think why couldn’t I like stamps, my life would have been so much easier  then, but I like animals so I can’t help myself, I guess I just have to live with it.  The truth is I don’t pity myself, actually I’m quite happy with it, another silly thing, it has been said that we humans are just animals with clothes on, if you have ever attended a course of several days, even for  the first time, we believe that this particular seat is ours and don’t appreciate anyone asking us to move , same goes for my students, we strive to have them work and learn together, we mix boys and girls, and yet when we leave they have split up, boys on one side the girls on the other, well when I was with my dogs a short while ago the same happened, now I have got 3 of them and each one has its own bed which is just as fluffy and big as the next one but oh dear if one of them attempts to occupy another one’s bed, so we have a problem because the one that got dispossessed stands crying beside the bed until I wake up and put things in place again, which means each dog in its own bed, for sure we all have our habits and foolishness.  Until the next nonsense that I can think of. Teo, a galgo who was lucky

The story of Teo is the reason of an internal conflict of my feelings towards human beings. I will tell you the story and you judge for yourself.. Teo was left in a pinewood close to our refuge, in Laguna de Duero. Not only left there but tied to a tree without water or food, left to die, and from what he looked like when he arrived we think he must have been all alone there for over a week, untill a human being passed his way and got very angry, cut the cord he was tied with, brought him to the police and from there he came to our  refuge in Laguna where he went from food to water continuously. I have very ambivalent feelings, they go from wanting to shoot the one who left him there and kiss the one who rescued him. Now he’s there slowly gaining weight and living the life he has never had before. Greetings, Fermin

HAPPY ENDING

We have a new little doggygirl at Scooby, she is black with a white coloured spot, medium sized and about four to five years of age.
Her beautiful face, her divine eyes, her look sad, very sad...
She came to us on a cold morning, soaked and wounded on one of her hind legs, they told us that they had seen a dog that could not get out of a channel in a neighbourhood not far from Scooby, we went over there and there she was, our friend, up to her belly in the water she was.
She was very scared, running from one side to another trying to get out, but she couldn’t escape because the only exit was near a farm where some big dogs were trying to bite her...
When we saw her she was very scared, we were trying to soothe her and in the end one of us managed to grasp her and between all climbed out and bring her to Scooby, dry her and clean her and it was then when we realized that she had a wound in one of her hind legs.
It looked like a bite, perhaps of one of the big dogs that were preventing her from escaping, the wound didn’t look good... it was infected and very swollen, probably due to the days that our friend had been in the channel and the poor state of the water.
We didn’t have much choice but to take her to the vet... the result: five stitches in her leg.
Back home she shivered, I think that was rather from the cold if not of fear, we looked at her asking ourselves what we were going to get her, we put food for her and managed to convince her to eat a good serving of meatballs.
Already more quiet and cuddled up next to Pinocchio which was the first of our dogs that came to sniff her,  whispering in her ear, "don't be afraid, here they will take care of you", she soon was peacefully asleep.
We decided to call her Cielo, ‘Heaven’.

A real Christmas story

This is one of those stories that we dont like to tell from Scooby Medina but we hope that, like any other Christmas story, it has a happy ending.
It was the dawn of a typical winter day, with its fog and mists when the Scooby team went on their way to a small town in the province of Salamanca, after a call from the mayor who had warned us that a couple of very dangerous Mastins had been found in his village and the villagers were terrified. As we approached the town, the sun started to rise, a prelude of what we were about to find. Accompanied by the major and the Guardia Civil, the courageous Scooby team was prepared to meet the violent animals. And they were in for a surprise when they met 7 adorable mastins, some with more character than others but ultimately all with a  very positive attitude.  What really stole our heart was this little mastin puppy we found, black and white, 2 months old which we named Niebla, an adorable and sweet puppy.
The Guardia civil made sure that the owner who was living in one of the nearby farms came to the scene, and we were told that these dogs were not to be identified nor did they know if they were even vaccinated. So the Guardia Civil had to make a decision right then, either a veterinarian came and made sure things were arranged or apart from putting in a complaint, they would take away the animals. The boy didnt know what to do and finally decided that the Scooby team could take away 3 dogs, and the rest would stay with him, on the condition they would receive the care they needed and that they would be chipped, as required by law.
And so, unto Scooby came Niebla (puppy), Xin (6 months) and Lobby (3 years), 3 adorable dogs in need of love and attention they did not have before. And now it is up to you to put an end to this story, a happy and good end, adding another member to your family, you are not going to regret it.  We need you, but they  need you more. This time more than ever we count on you and your solidarity. Thanks again!

 Niebla is already reserved;-)

Facebook fences

It's funny that nowadays so many people are on facebook, from all over the world. And it seems that people that are infected with Scooby fever infect more and more people with this 'disease' through social media. And for Scooby this means all the difference in the world! Scooby gets better known, dogs and cats get promoted and the frequent auctions raise a lot of money for the animals of Scooby and that is much needed!
Last august we were in the perimeter, the big paddocks surrounding the Scooby farm. Here we noticed that Askaron, a shy mastin, was not inside his paddock but was walking outside the fence! Dani climbed on a doghouse, jumped over the fence and gently forced Askaron to go back into the paddock, trough the hole that he apparently made or found during the night.
This happening was the start of the idea to start another auction on facebook. This time to raise money to build new fences for the perimeter, to keep dogs inside and strangers out.

The auction was lead by volunteers from Scooby North America and raised a lot of money. Money that we can spend on new fencing, what again proved today to be very very needed as you can see in the pictures we took of another brave rescue of a Mastin. She somehow knew how to escape out of the paddock but got stuck trying to get back in. Luckily the dog didn't get injured, thanks to the quick rescue of the Scooby team.
So we can definitely say on behalf of the dogs and the Scooby team: thank you for enabling us to renew the old fences and increase the safety of our dogs  with your support!
